You are running your own specialist travel company, Opto Tours, you offer unusual breaks in places all around the world.  The holidays are once in a lifetime dream trips giving customers a chance to do something completely different!  Customers can find out about the holidays you offer on your website and then phone-up to book.

Some of the popular trips you offer include:

  • Africa: Kenyan Wildlife Safari, Cruise down the River Nile
  • Asia: Trek to Everest base camp, Learn to cook in China, Elephant Safari through India
  • South America: Journey through the Brazilian Rainforest, Discover Mexico's Inca Ruins
  • Australia: Diving in the Great Barrier Reef, Ice Climbing up the glaciers of New Zealand

Getting started:

You must complete the following preparation tasks before going onto task 1

·         Part 1: File Management PMD

·         Part 2: Designing a Company Logo PMD

Part 1: File Management

This task is linked into task 10 where you will have to demonstrate that throughout the project you:

  • had created and named at least two new folders to store the files which you have created.

  • You have used suitable filenames

  • Create at least two subfolders to help you organise your work

  • Store all the files created within the filing structure

  • Use suitable filenames

 

-> Make a new folder called "OCR National"

-> Within the folder "OCR National" set up the following folders: Images, Searching for Info, Email, Business Documents, Spreadsheet, Business Presentation, Database, and Good working Practice.

-> Within the business documents folder set up the following sub folders: Brochure, Memo, Invoice, and Letter.

Part 2: Designing a Company Logo

What is a logo?  Why do company use them?  What makes an effective logo?

Look around the room (e.g. at the pc's, a friend's watch, your PE trainers etc) and search online to find 6 famous logos, what do they say about the company? What  traits do they have in common?

You will need to design a brand new logo for Opto tours, it must be really good as you will use it on all your work in this unit.

-> Begin by creating a set of 3 - 5 effective logos for Opto Tours

-> Ask some members of your class to choose which of your logos has the most impact

-> You will use the selected logo throughout your work, make sure it is saved in you "Images" folder as either a jpg, gif or png file.
